You are free to reproduce most of the text that appears on Commtap - either non-commercially or commercially. In general, all you will need to do is include a link back to Commtap (www.commtap.org), and include this same condition on the material that you pass on. If you are printing out pages from Commtap for others, then this information will already be included in the page.
Most pages use the "GNU Free Documentation License", newer pages also use a Creative Commons License (the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY-SA)), which imposes a minimum amount of restrictions on how the material is used. When re-using material from Commtap, you can use any of the licenses specified.
We prefer to use a license which allows both non-commercial and commercial use of the material as this maximises the freedom of re-use. In particular, it allows anyone, including those who have had a part in creating a work, the ability to at some later date, to incorporate that work into material they may wish to publish for a commercial purpose. In this situation, those parts of their new work which were derived from Commtap would need to carry the same license as it originally carried on Commtap.
The copyright philosophy used on Commtap is similar to that used on Wikipedia.
In general, pictures and files uploaded to Commtap should use the same Creative Commons License (Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY-SA)) as most of the text on the site. Which license is used with files and pictures is indicated as follows:
When you upload a picture or file, you will be able to include information about copyright. If you created it yourself, say so: if you do not include any further copyright information, then it will be assumed that you are happy for it to be released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY-SA). Other files and pictures - for example those published on the internet - should ideally have been released using a license which allows non-commercial and commercial re-use; one of the licenses recommended for files/pictures on Wikipedia would be appropriate. If more than one license is specified, you can use any of them.
Please note, just because a file or picture is included on a website does not mean that it can be copied and used elsewhere.
Please note, the Commtap logo is copyrighted by Commtap CIC, and should not be used in other publications without permission - either commercially or non-commercially.
