| Hunt the Treasure Who what where prompt cards (each prompt card should have the word e.g. "who" along with a picture or picture symbol for that word) Counters or other treasure A range of objects including animals (optional) | 1. Hide the counters as treasure. Put them around the room, or under / behind the different objects. 2. Explain to the child that they can find out where to look for the treasure by asking questions. 3. Revise the questions they might need to ask, and remind them of the prompt cards. 4. As they ask questions, give them the information to find the treasure. 5. See how much treasure they can find in a set time! | You could use pictures of the child's classmates instead of counters for treasure. |
| Who am I? Question prompt cards 2 sets of pictures - use at least 2 categories, e.g. animals and food Masking tape / head band | 1. Cut up one set of pictures into individual pictures and put them into a bag or box. 2. Explain to the child that you will take it in turns to work out 'who am I?'. 3. Pick one picture and either tape it to the child's back, the back of their chair, or put it on a head band on their head (so that the child cannot see it). 4. Use the question prompt cards to remind the child of the sorts of questions to ask to find out what their picture is. 5. Use the second set of pictures to help the child work this out. E.g. if they ask 'am I alive' and the answer is 'no', turn over all the animal pictures. | |
| Secrets A book with interesting pictures Question prompt cards | 1. Explain to the child that you will take it in turns to choose a page of the book, without letting the other person see. 2. The second person uses questions to work out which page it is. 3. See who can work out the most secret pages! | If you have two copies of the same book, each person can have a copy. Alternatively, you can photocopy pictures from the book. |
| Making movies Digital camera Playmobil figures or other action figures and simple props. Question words. | 1. One person chooses some figures to act out a simple scene. Record this on the digital camera as a video clip. 2. All the action figures are put back. 3. The second person asks questions to find out what happened. When they think they know, they act out the scene and it is recorded on the camera. 4. Compare the two clips to see if they are the same! | The camera on a mobile phone could be used if a digital camera is not available. |
