Polysyllabic Bingo

List of 2 syllable words

Cards of pictures of the first syllables of the words.

Cards of pictures of the last syllables of the words.

To delete syllables:

Give the children the cards that show the first syllable of the words. Tell them they have to take away the end of the words they hear. If they have the right picture, they get a point. The child to get all their pictures first wins. E.g. Read out 'cowboy'. The child who has a picture of a 'cow' gets that point.

To add syllables:

Give the children the cards that show the last syllable of the words (several per child). Pick one card that shows the first syllable of a word. Hold up the card but only say the whole word. E.g. Hold up 'cow', say 'cowboy'. The child who has a picture of a boy holds it up, so you can make 'cowboy'.

Great activity for a child who is still coming to grips with the concept of syllables!
