CPD and Commtap

As an ambassador, you can edit this page and add further ideas!

The RCSLT CPD toolkit gives the following examples of evidence accepted by the HPC which people could gain by using and contributing to Commtap:

  • Learning by doing;
  • Gaining and learning from experience.

Examples of what can be used for CPD through using Commtap:

  • Gain knowledge and understanding of how speech and language therapy activities and targets can link to what goes on in schools;
  • Use this experience to be able to more effectively communicate with teaching staff - for example at annual reviews and when discussing ideas for helping a child;
  • be better able to understand and relate a child's language and communication abilities to what they are able to do across the curriculum (e.g. science, maths, art, music etc. as well as in more clearly connected curricuum areas such as literacy/english);
  • The act of creating targets/activities and incorporating them on the site requires more thinking about the level of an activity (in education terms) and creates a deeper understanding of them - in contrast to doing a search for a target and using existing activities;
  • Sometimes adding a new target with activities entails a search for research in to a particular skill area to find where it should fit developmentally and within the education scales (if you want to level it yourself). For example doing this gave me a much greater understanding of the different levels of understanding required for the concepts "left" and "right": (on themselves, on objects in front of them, other people's);
  • learn from other SLT's ideas and be able to build on them (reinforcing their own ideas and building the knowledge base of the profession);
