Producing words that rhyme

Find a word that rhymes with.... dice game - Dice game template - click here to print - Dice - Counters or stickers	Print out the template. 2. Explain to your child that you are going to take turns at rolling the dice and then saying a word which rhymes with the chosen picture. 3. Roll the dice - the number will indicate the first picture in the game. 4. Think of a word that rhymes with this picture. Once you have done this, place a counter or a sticker on the word. 4. Keep playing until one line is completely full. 5. If your child is finding it challenging to think of word, you could given them a choice, e.g. 'does car or hat rhyme with cat?' You could also use an alphabet chart and choose different sounds to see if they make a rhyming word.

Rhyming Pairs - Printable rhyming pairs picture cards	Print and cut out the rhyming picture pairs cards. Talk to your child about rhyming words - words that have a different sound at the begining sound the same at the end, e.g. 'bat' and 'cat'. Show your child an example from the picture cards. Lay the picture cards face down in front of you. Each take a turn at choosing 2 picture cards - say the words - do they rhyme? If they do, you get to keep the pair and have another turn. If they do not rhyme, place them back and the next person takes a turn. The game ends once all the pairs have gone - the winner is the person with the most pairs of cards.
