| Picture sequencing activities See target sheet "sequences three or more pictures" Note, the activities there are at a slightly higher level than this one - so only use them if appropriate for the children you are working with. | Reading verbs This activity is for children who can read. Set of cards with the present tense on one side (e.g. run) and the past tense on the other side (ran). Symbol software (such as Communicate:In Print or Boardmaker) which illustrates the verb and adds an extra qualifier for the past is very useful. See: "common irregular past tense verbs" on www.commtap.org for a list of irregular past tense verbs. | 1. Place the cards with the present tense face up. 2. The child chooses a card and guesses what the past tense on the other side is. If he's correct, he gets the card; otherwise you get it! | |

Pictures (to be stuck in a book) which show actions using verbs you want to work on: for example from Flash-pro CD, clip art, Google or Yahoo images See this list of common irregular past tense verbs on www.commtap.org. Book Glue Pen/pencil | 1. Ask the child to choose one picture. 2. Cut it out and stick it in their book. 3. Ask the child to say a sentence about the picture using the past tense. 4. Ask them to write it beneath the picture 5. Ask the child to say another sentence, using the same past tense verb. 6. Ask them to write it in their book. |
